When you treat success as your only option, you’ll learn to view setbacks as lessons, not failures. You will only get better.

Growing, learning, doing. Aiming for success.

No matter where you are in life, these things probably apply to you. Because as humans, there is always room for improvement, there is always a lesson to be learned, and there is always a goal to be chased. The issue is that we’re often our toughest critics, and ultimately, we get in our own way. So on the road to success, it’s important to replace critiquing and comparing with lessons learned.

A young male cheetah has one goal: to eat. This pursuit, born of necessity, demands well-honed savagery. Everything he does, every skill, every competency, is a result of pursuing that goal. When a cheetah fails a hunt, he extracts only useful information from that failure, and then, he moves forward to his next attempt. There is no self-pity for failed hunts. There is no comparing his hunting prowess to that of others. There is only focus on the goal.

Then there’s a lion, whose mentality towards success offers a useful lesson to our own goals and path forward:
When you treat success as your only option, you’ll learn to view setbacks as lessons—not failures. You will only get better.

We can all learn a thing or two from the animal kingdom. The hardest part is choosing where to start.

This is arguably the most important step in changing your views towards success. Why? Because we’re human. We weren’t created to be perfect. We aren’t expected to make all the right choices. But we are meant to evolve and can take action to learn.

Whether you can see it or not, every bump in the road is setting you up for success. So instead of viewing them as failures along the way, treat them like a gift. Because each experience is building your strength, endurance, and grit through lessons you may have never faced alone. The only time you fail is when you quit. Keep learning. Keep going.

Your goals are goals for a reason. If they were easily achievable, they wouldn’t serve a purpose. Instead, they’re meant to guide you, challenge you, and overall, teach you. The best part about goals is that they’re yours to make

So continue to challenge yourself, but keep one ultimate goal above all others–to be realistic and understanding with your expectations. When you don’t give yourself an adequate amount of time and space to meet your achievements, it is easy to become overwhelmed and quit altogether. By allowing room for this acceptance, you will reach new heights in your success.

No matter where you are in the process, take time to establish what success will look like for you and focus on that. When you know where you want to end up, you won’t let a wrong turn set you back— you’ll simply reroute and keep moving forward. Because once you reach your goals, you won’t look back on the steps it took to get there and dwell on any failures along the way, but rather that you made it–you succeeded.

Keep your eyes on the prize and let the vision of success be there to block anything else along the way. Whatever it is that you’re chasing, you will reach.
