Learn to Ride the Waves of Life– Vitality

Learn to Ride the Waves of Life

Learn to Ride the Waves of Life

In times of uncertainty and confusion, choose to see the light

Balance Fam, it seems as though life wants to teach us many lessons this year.

Only 3 months into 2020 and we’re experiencing multiple hardships within our community as a whole. Rather than allow you, or ourselves, to sink into a slippery sorrow state, we’re here to inspire you to live in the light even when the world seems to go dark.

Just like the tides of the sea rise, they fall. They find balance among the gravitational force of the moon and the sun. On beautiful sunny days, waves flow seamlessly, almost effortlessly, but when storms start to form, waves can immediately begin to crash against each other. These are conditions very similar to the ebbs and flows of life. Although you may not be able to predict what the weather will bring, you can learn to develop an awareness for the balance of the rise and fall that embodies life.

Choosing to embrace the uncertainty that comes with the unknown, good or bad, will ultimately ease each transition. You can choose to fight the waves that come crashing in or choose to learn about them and work through them. In time, the tough waves won’t knock you off of your feet anymore. When you learn to accept what you cannot control, you will build a new strength to stand tall, brace yourself, and ride all waves of life.

Waves are amazing, aren’t they? The way they constantly keep going despite how low or high the tide is. Life is full of inconsistency and the unknown, but that shouldn’t hold us back from greatness. It’s okay to not have it all figured out, and it’s okay to not know what the future holds. Pay no mind to others swimming around you. Tides of life will look different for each individual, so take this time to ride your own wave. See the light in yourself and all that you’re accomplishing along the way.

When we place too much value on the destination, we begin to correlate our sense of self-worth with our achievements and we forget to see the beauty of our development along the way. Self-worth is not and should not be considered a result of what you achieve. A mindset that disregards the beauty of failure, the beauty of learning, deprives you of the joy that comes from the process. When you celebrate failure, you celebrate growth. If we see failure as our teacher and try to learn from our mistakes it will teach us to flourish.

Let the process be your driving force and fulfillment will follow. Take note of all the good that comes from your journey and you will see how far you’ve come. This will give you grace in failure and even more appreciation in your successes.

Giving recognition to all that you’re grateful for on a daily basis can not only improve your mood and perspective but also propel you forward during even the most difficult of times.

When is the last time you took a moment to think about the things in your life you’re thankful for? Think back to that moment. How did it make you feel–happy, content, maybe inspired?

Not only is it humbling, but it pushes you into a more positive energy. It reminds you of where you came from and shows you how much you really have. When you find true appreciation for the things in your life, you’re less likely to be looking for more or wishing for a different situation. Appreciation teaches you how to cherish everything you are and everything you have in this very moment.  Although seasons will change and tides will rise and fall, what matters most is that you are here and you have more than you may notice.

If reading this has you realizing that you maybe haven’t taken the time to appreciate all the amazing things in your life recently, we encourage you to incorporate it into your everyday routine.

Add it to your morning or nighttime routine
Take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your life and write down the top three things you’re thankful for.

Express your gratitude for others
Appreciate the things that others do for you and express that appreciation with them personally whether that be a phone call, a message, or even a shout-out on social media.

Live in the moment
Practicing presence will allow you to better recognize the people and things you have in your life. Be where you are, and be all there.

We will forever be unable to tame the waves in the same way we were unable to resist the flow of our day, and our lives– but we can learn to move with them. They may not take you in the direction you had originally planned, but you’ll end up exactly where you’re meant to be.
