This new year, make more than resolutions.
Make promises, set intentions, and create realistic goals.

According to U.S. News, 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by February. If you fall into this statistic, you’re not alone. It’s evident that the problem is the tradition, not you, but together we can fix this.

Going into 2020, join us in turning resolutions into intentions.

Instead of simply stating your goal for the year, setting intentions will help you focus in on why you want to reach that goal. Not only will this help you in achieving what’s realistic, but you’ll also have an understanding of what you need to do to make it all come to fruition.

Get in shape Focus on what habits are missing in your life, such as specific workouts, that you can incorporate in this next year to get closer to your fitness goals.

Eat healthier Be mindful of what goes into your body and remember how good you feel when fueled properly

Land that dream job Put in the work ethic that makes you your most productive self and keeps you motivated

Be patient Introduce new habits that help clear your mind, like meditating or journaling

Setting intentions for goals creates room for flexibility in reaching them rather than the feeling of failure if you don’t. By taking the steps to reach your resolutions, you are making progress which in turn holds you more accountable in following through with them.

While making this change can contribute to higher success in your New Year’s resolutions, it’s important to keep in mind other factors that will help set you up for success as you think about setting your intentions for the year.

Don’t take on more than you can handle. By narrowing down your resolutions, you’re allowing more time to focus on each goal.

Write them down and set a plan. Be as specific and detailed as possible.

Take each resolution step by step. The new year may appear overnight, but your goals are something you need to work towards. Take each resolution in moderation rather than treating it like a sprint.

Hold yourself accountable. Tell the people closest to you what your resolutions are and have them check in with you frequently to see how you’re achieving them.

Here are 3 ways to ring in the new year, and the new decade. Make it right for you.

Write Down Your Intentions

How did you know we were going to say this one? Well, for the first quarter of your life you used this method as a tool to remember as much as you possibly could.

Using a pen and paper to write down your intentions will help you remember them!

You may be tempted to type them on your laptop, but we’d like to encourage you to take the time to physically write them out. This has been proven to boost memory.

We don’t want you to stop there either. Write down your intentions, then do one better and remind yourself of those intentions by re-reading them weekly, or even daily.

Create a Vision Board (or Design a Pinterest Dream board)

If you prefer a visual representation of your New Year's intentions, this one’s for you.

Collect physical photos (or pins on Pinterest) that represent your intentions and can serve as a reminder for what you want to achieve this year. These images can be people you aspire to be like, places you wish to reach, things you want to achieve, or even words themselves.

Place this board somewhere you can see it on a daily basis and reinforce your memory of those intentions once again!

Choose a Word of the Year

A simple, yet just as helpful, approach to remind yourself of your intentions is choosing one word to encompass them. You can use this word as your mantra or your anchor to those specific intentions. You can write about your intentions in this word or visually present it in a creative form.

If we gave it our best last year, let’s give it our all this year.
