Trust Your Instincts - Vitality

Quit overthinking and start making decisions that serve YOU.

You make decisions all day, every day. Some through intuition, others through analysis. The question is, which is serving you best?

Like all animals, humans have instincts. Without instincts, you’d get stuck in analysis paralysis, unsure of which decision will lead you down the right path, ultimately leading you to potentially making bad choices. Yet, traditional education is all about teaching analysis and inspecting each option fully—aka overthinking. But people rarely refine their gut feelings even though the brain utilizes both logic and intuition. So rather than questioning your every move, carrying burdening thoughts and “what if’s” through decision-making, work towards developing intuition.

Developing intuition is a skill. Unlike instincts that are second-nature, intuition is something you have to build. With intuition, the days of searching for conscious reasoning can be left behind. Because with intuition comes trust. Trust in yourself, trust in your decisions, and trust in your path.

In order to get here, you have to really take that time and care for yourself first. Start off by learning to recognize your intuition and deepen your understanding through meditation. Get to know yourself better, ask questions, and write down your answers. It may sound silly, because who knows you better than you? But as we evolve, it’s important to take the time to dig deeper into who you are and what makes you, you. This is what will lead to developing the intuition necessary to serve you best.

Once you’ve developed intuition, it’s time to test it by learning to trust your gut. Trusting your gut is not as simple as the phrase implies, but it does come down to one simple thing–quit overthinking. Your intuition will not fail you, it will only ever teach you. Let go of any worry of making the wrong decision, because chances are, the “right” one doesn’t exist. Everything you do will ultimately lead to something new down the road, and sometimes it’s the “wrong” choices that bring unexpected beauty.

Getting to this point doesn’t happen overnight, but once you do build that trust in yourself and ditch the overthinking, you’ll be fit to make decisions that serve YOU. No more second-guessing.
