Year in Review – Balance Perspectives

It’s that time of year–to reflect, appreciate, and discover.

With 2020 coming to a close, we can’t help but look back on this year with overwhelming gratitude. Despite the struggles and uncertainty that hit us all, we’ve seen so much good and light come out of hardship. We’ve witnessed groups come together in support of what is right, loving gestures, and a heightened appreciation for the time we have with family and friends. We’ve discovered new ways to connect, found the value in self-care, and learned that true happiness comes from a grateful heart.

Full of appreciation, here’s what we, and the Balance community, discovered when reflecting back on this year:
“I’m grateful for quality time with my family and friends. Every moment with them is a gift.”

Our time is sacred and can fly by if we don’t pause to take in meaningful moments. If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that connection with loved ones should always be a priority – we should savor each day we have with them. Despite separation, we’ve discovered new ways to stay connected – through video chats, virtual game nights, letter-writing, and more meaningful phone conversations. We’ve strengthened our relationships with intention, rather than letting them slip to the wayside, and that is something to be so proud of.
“I’ve learned to focus on myself, to put myself first and fill my own cup so I can fill others up. I realized I was stretching myself way too thin before.”

Prior to 2020, it was common to live a “go-go-go” lifestyle. Once we were forced to slow down, many of us discovered that our own self-care had taken a back seat for a long while. This year allowed us to reconnect with ourselves – our feelings, passions, and needs. This isn’t to say that we’ve all been perfect, or that we haven’t cut back on our personal goals (we’re all only human!), but we were gifted the time to care for ourselves in ways we weren’t able to before. And that is something we’ll strive to never give up again.
“I’m stronger than I give myself credit for, and owning my emotions does not make me weak.”
This year was one of constant change and adjustment, and with that came personal and collective growth. Though difficult at first, we’ve learned how to accept what is out of our control, to make the most of every situation, and to see the light at the end of every tunnel. It took time, reflection, and strength to grow both emotionally and personally so that we could handle the uncertainty at hand. But we did it. At the same time, we realized the differing feelings and emotions we may have had throughout the year were valid, and that allowing ourselves to
feel doesn’t mean we’re weak. In fact, it means we’re strong, in tune with ourselves, and able to work through our emotions in a healthy way. We can look back on this year with appreciation for the growth experienced and the obstacles we overcame along the way.
“In order to cultivate change, we must be the change. There’s nothing as powerful as the world uniting to make a difference, and we couldn’t be more proud and thankful for our Balance Family.⁣”

We leave 2020 full of inspiration and hope for the future, as we’ve witnessed firsthand how impactful unity and togetherness truly is. In just one year, we’ve donated to several diverse charities, fought for social justice and equality, promoted acceptance and empowerment, and actively chosen to lead with positivity and love. From global movements to local initiatives, monetary donations to daily acts of kindness, the Balance family came together as a community this past year to help make this world a better place for all. And for that, we could not be more grateful.
As we move into a new year, we can’t lose sight of the lessons learned in 2020. Instead, we must continue learning, growing, and becoming better versions of ourselves each and every day. This year showed us that change is possible and we are so much stronger than we may realize. As long as we continue to see the light in the darkness, to value relationships and ourselves, and to constantly strive for what is good and right, 2021 will be full of love and happiness. Thank you, Balance Family, for giving us so much to be grateful for this year. We look forward to spreading love, kindness, and positive change with you in the years to come.
Here’s to an unforgettable 2020 and hope for the year 2021. ❤️
